Asian Civilisations Museum
Take a look at the Asian Civilisations Museum. Notice that is shares the same neoclassical palladian architectural features as other buildings like the Arts House and the National Gallery. Some of these features include the long columns and Greek temple inspired facade. Completed in 1867 and designed by colonial engineer John Fredrick Adolphus McNair, this building was initially intended to be a new court house for the colony. However, once construction was completed, Government departments like the Public Works, Medical Departments, the Treasury and the Stamp Office were housed here and the building then became known as the Government Building. It was later renamed as the Empress Place Building in 1907 in honour of the late Queen Victoria, along with the pedestrian crossing next to it.
