A Bridge with a History
Cavenagh Bridge
As the oldest bridge to survive in its original condition along the Singapore River, Cavenagh Bridge’s architectural integrity is something to be admired. After two years of construction, the bridge was inaugurated and opened for use in 1869, making it over 150 years old! Take the time to admire its steel structure, imported from engineering firm P & W MacLellan in Glasgow, Scotland all the way to Singapore. You can find their logo along the bridge structure and a sign above the bridge indicating its name and when it was opened. You may also spot police signs indicating that livestock and vehicles over 3cwt or 152kg are not allowed to cross the bridge.
