Permission for the execution of Carrey’s work:
Athens of 1674
In order for the Turks to allow Carrey to draw the sculptures of the Parthenon, the ambassador de Nointel offered a lot of gifts to the Agha, such as an expensive piece of cloth, coffee and twelve fat geese. As a result, Carrey was allowed to draw most of the sculptures of the Parthenon. In fact, he managed to finish his work in fifteen days.
