The seven streets square
Piazza dei Cavalieri
Piazza dei Cavalieri is a square located where the ancient Roman Forum of the city was. Many years later, when Pisa was a republic, the square was called “square of the seven streets" because of the several vias that converged in the ancient political decision-making centre of the Republic of Pisa. This was also the place where traditional games took place, such as Mazzascudo ("mace and shield" in Italian), which consisted of clashes between different neighbourhoods, as we have already mentioned. Remember?
