The best town in Greece
Seytan Bazar
It did not take long for Preveza to come back from the destruction wrought by the Turks in 1789. Less than ten years later foreign visitors described it as the best town in Greece, with an excellent climate and a vibrant local economy. The superb location and the rising trade lead to a population increase. In the middle of the 19th century the town had 6000 residents and more than 200 stores that catered to their needs. In 1865 the Sultan approved the residents’ petition and allowed the hosting of a weekly and an annual market. The weekly market took place each Monday while the town hosted the annual trade fair during the last two weeks of May.
