Kostas Karyotakis' statue
Karyotakis arrived in Preveza by sea (there was no road connecting Preveza to his previous post) on June 18th, 1928. He was assigned to the Preveza Prefecture’s Office for Refugee Resettlement and he was responsible for checking the validity of land titles distributed to the Asia Minor refugees. He rented a small house and prepaid the rent for six months. He lived plainly, without books, but had with him many handwritten poems. Even though Preveza was a provincial town, he was always sporting suits made in Paris. On July 21st, barely a month after his arrival, he committed suicide.
