“Molon Lave” (Come and get it)
Thermopylae (the monument)
In the narrow paths of Thermopylae, the clashes of the Spartan and Thespian weapons still echo. Raising the cry of “Molon Lave” (the reply of the brave king Leonidas when asked to surrender) as their banner, they fought the numerous Persians and dedicated their lives to defending their country. The remains of the fortified “Walls of Fokae,” built in the 6th Cen. B.C., and repaired prior to the encounter with the Persians, remain an indisputable testimony to these proud men who didn’t hesitate to fight under the shadow of the falling arrows of the warrior hosts of King Xerxes.
