From Dionysus to Sicelianos
Delphi Theatre
The imposing mount Parnassus provided the limestone to construct the seats of one of the best-preserved theatres in Greece. 5000 people attended there, initially for the music competitions and later on for the plays which took place every four years. Centuries later, the Delphic Festivals, which took place in 1927 and 1930, after the initiative of the poet Aggelos Sikelianos and his American wife Eva Palmer, brought back Greek drama to its place of birth.
