Building’s history
Synagogue of Mountain Jews
The Synagogue of Mountain Jews in Baku has been functioning since 1945 when, after World War II, the Mountain Jews were given an old building for religious needs in the city centre, in the old Jewish neighbourhood. However, the building was in poor condition and praying here was quite unpleasant. Therefore, the building was completely restored and reopened on April 5, 2011. Today, besides being a functioning synagogue, it is a must-visit place for all guests of the country with an interest in Azerbaijan’s Jewish heritage.
