Bridge between cultures
Arch Bridge
Many young Mountain Jews have crossed it to the big city in pursuit of higher education and to learn trades. The burnt bricks of which the old bridge was built have witnessed many changes in Red Village, from the heyday of religious life in the early 20th century, when there were 13 synagogues in the village, to the coming of Soviet power and religious repression, to soldiers being escoted to the front in World War II, many of whom never returned. It has become a symbol of the settlement and of the close ties between two cultures: the Muslims of Guba and the Jews of Red Village.
