Former synagogue
Mountain Jews Museum Guba
The Garchei Synagogue was closed as part of the anti-religious measures introduced after the arrival of the Soviets. Remarkable for its unusual design, the synagogue was built by Hillel Ben Chaim for the local Garchei community. On the facade is another stone bearing the date 1816, which may have been taken from the synagogue when it was abandoned. An external feature of this building, as well as of the Gilaki Synagogue, is a tall octagonal drum with a dome atop a four-slope roof.
