Rabbi Gershon grave
Red Village consists of several neighbourhoods, one of which is called Gisori. Former residents of this neighbourhood are buried in Gisori Cemetery, which is one of Red Village’s oldest cemeteries and is located on the slope of the hill. The earliest gravestones here date back to 1807 and 1814. Carved from fieldstone, they are about 80cm high with inscriptions chiseled into the stone slab. Other tombstones from the first half of the 19th century are rectangular stela with no ornamentation. Modest ornaments started to appear on the mid-19th century stones in the form of an open rosette, and those from the second half of the 19th century are decorated with leaves and stars of David. Inscriptions are framed in a pointed arch.
