Saul Winter was arrested on the night of the November Pogrom in 1938. Because he had a Polish instead of a German passport, he was taken to the Halberstadt police prison and kept for two nights, as his youngest daughter Judith recalls. Afterwards, Saul and Frida Winter, along with their adult children Sara, Rosa and Sammy, wanted to emigrate to Palestine/Israel. In order to obtain the necessary documents, they had to go to Zmigrod. That was the last they were heard of.The tour continues a bit further along the street with the family Gotzmann/Gocman.
