The Reichenbach clothing business was founded in the mid-19th century by Jacob Reichenbach (14.9.1844-17.12.1872). Over time, the business grew into several stores for ready-to-wear clothing, linens and fashion wear in Halberstadt, and also in Wernigerode starting in 1869. In 1913, the individual retail shops in Halberstadt were united in the Reichenbach department store at Hoheweg No. 27/Martiniplan No. 10. Through his marriage to Paula Reichenbach (born April 18, 1877) in 1903, Georg Wollenberg, born February 7, 1871, became a partner in the business.In 1936, the business was forced to close.Paul Reichenbach died on November 20, 1935 at the age of 59, Georg Wollenberg on August 18, 1938.On April 12, 1942, Kurt Reichenbach (born May 26, 1889), Paula Wollenberg (born 1877) and her son Hans (born August 3, 1907) were deported out of Halberstadt to Warsaw.  Adolf, the son of Paul Reichenbach and Margarete, née Liebental, born December 15, 1914, managed to escape to the USA.
