Synagogue of the dynasty of mastery
Algaze Synagogue
On one corner of a long, high outer wall, a gray-blue door leaps to the eye. Once open, a second door comes through a brick-vaulted entrance. It reaches a stone-paved courtyard surrounded by a building and two outer walls. “Algaze” and “1724” are outstanding as name and date markers on inscription pieces over the opposite wall. The marble staircase next to this wall leads to the building. The latitudinal corridor by the entrance has three open niches and two passages in between, making the prayer section of the synagogue visible. The rows of seats, mostly over hundred years, still have the names of congregation members carved in Hebrew letters. The high platform in the middle is the Tevah, from where the rabbi or cantor leads the prayer ceremonies with his face towards the Ehal.
