On a tightrope situated over Grodzka Street balances a monument of Jasza Mazur, the main character from the “The Magician of Lublin” novel, written in Yiddish by Nobel Laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer (1904-1991).Grandfather of the writer was a rabbi in Biłgoraj, a town situated in the Lublin region. The few years that Isaac spent in this town had a huge amount of influence on his literary output.The storyline of numerous novels written by Singer takes place in cities and towns of the Lublin region.“Carnaval Sztukmistrzów”, the New Circus festival, organized every year as well as “Śladami Singera” traveling festival, organized by the “Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre” Center both refer to the character of the Magician of Lublin.
