Franciszka Arnsztajn house - Złota 2
Dom Franciszki Arnsztajnowej - Złota 2
The neighbouring house at 2 Złota Street belonged to Franciszka Arnsztajn from 1899, the daughter of Bernard Meyerson, a merchant and Director of the City of Lublin Credit Society, and Malwina Meyerson. Her brother Emil Meyerson emigrated to Paris and became one of the leading philosophers of his time. Her husband, Doctor of Medicine Marek Arnsztajn, was a social activist known for treating the poor free of charge. Franciszka’s house was an intellectual and cultural centre that attracted Lublin intellectuals, both Jewish and Christian, especially those active in the Polish independence movement. Franciszka herself was a renowned poet who published a few collections of poetry. One of the them, Stare kamienie (Old Stones), written together with young avant-garde poet Józef Czechowicz (1903-1939), was dedicated to Lublin.
