Walking further down DominikaĆska Street, we will come across one of the oldest theatre buildings in Poland, that of the Old Theatre, founded in 1822 and run by the Christian family of the Makowskis. The Pantheon Cinema and Theatre functioned here in the interwar period. Its stage often hosted shows by Jewish theatres, played in Yiddish. One of the official names of the theatre was Yiddishe Folks Teater (Yiddish for Jewish People’s Theatre). An idea also originated at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, never implemented, to locate a progressive synagogue in the building.
