Former headquarters of Operation Reinhardt - 1 Spokojna Street
Dawny Sztab Akcji Reinhardt - ulica Spokojna 1
We reach Spokojna Street. Buildings housing the offices of the regional authorities, which were taken over by the Lublin District German occupational authorities during WWII, are located here. The German colonization of Eastern Europe was to be carried out from here. The current seat of the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Lublin, housing the Stephen Báthory Gimnazjum before 1939, was the seat of the Operation Reinhard Staff during the Nazi occupation period. Operation Reinhard, coordinated by the SS of the Lublin District, was the name given to the plan for deliberate physical annihilation of over 1.8 million Jews from German-occupied Poland. Most of them were murdered in the killing centres of Bełżec, Sobibór and Treblinka, created for the very purpose of extermination. Property stolen from the victims was shipped to Lublin, and then sorted and sent to Germany.
