Isaac Bashevis Singer is a Polish and American Jewish writer creating mainly in Yiddish, and a journalist. He won the Nobel Prize in the field of literature in 1978. His most popular novel is “The Magician of Lublin”, published for the first time in 1960.The writer was not personally associated with Lublin, however, the story of his many novels and short novels is set in the towns and cities of Lubelski region. Writer’s grandfather was a rabbi in town BiƂgoraj, situated in the Lubelski region, and a few years which young Isaac Bashevis Singer spent there had a huge impact on his literary work.There is a square in Lublin named after Isaac Bashevis Singer, and in the Old Town, on the line over the Grodzka Street, there is a monument of Jasza Mazur, the main character of “The Magician of Lublin” novel. Carnaval Sztukmistrzów–a new circus festival, organized in Lublin every year, and Festival "Following I. B. Singer's Traces", organized by The “Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre” Center, refer to the character of the Magician.
