Atelier of painter Symcha Trachter - Lubartowska 27
Atelier malarza Symchy Trachtera - Lubartowska 27
Let us begin with the house on the corner of Kowalska and Lubartowska Streets. Painter Symcha Trachter (1894-1942) grew up and had his studio here. He came from a Lublin merchant family and studied painting in Warsaw, Vienna and Paris, but portrayed Lublin and its inhabitants whenever he returned to the city. He came back for good in 1929 and opened a studio. He left for Warsaw during the German occupation and was incarcerated in the Warsaw Ghetto. He was murdered in the Treblinka extermination centre. Only some of his works survived the war, a few of which are displayed in the Lublin Museum.
