New Marketplace (Nowy Plac Targowy)
Nowy Plac Targowy (opis do spaceru po Lubartowskiej)
The Lubartów Road was delineated in 1817, after a pond located there had been drained and a bridge over the Czechówka River had been built. Initially, the road was a tree-lined avenue with no houses, and an English garden was established where the pond used to be. The park, however, was soon converted into a market with kosher meat shops placed along the bank of the Czechówka. The market, officially called Nowy Plac Targowy (or New Marketplace), was located between Browarna, Probostwo and Ruska Streets. A Modernist market hall (now a SpoĊem shop) was erected in the New Marketplace in the years 1938-1939. However, an open market still functions along Ruska Street, where one can obtain fresh food products from local farmers.
