Jewish Hospital - 81 Lubartowska Street
Szpital żydowski - Lubartowska 83
The new hospital at 81 (53) Lubartowska Street, founded in 1886, was the pride of the Lublin Jews. Maintained by the Jewish Community, it counted among the most modern medical institutions in the Polish lands. The hospital had a hundred beds in 1923 in the following wards: internal and urological, surgery, maternity, gynaecological and paediatric. The first long-serving head of the hospital was Jakub Cynberg (1864-1939), not only a physician, but also a Zionist and social activist. He was replaced in 1935 by Hersz Mandelbaum (1882-1944), politically affiliated with the Bund. During the German occupation period, the hospital was located within the ghetto and continued to serve the Jewish community, struggling with difficulties, overcrowding and persecution. On 27 March 1942, the Germans took away and murdered all the patients. After the war, the building was taken over by the state and has functioned as a hospital ever since.
