Waldschlechsen beer store – 21, Karl Marx Street
The story of Karl Marx Street does not end there. Onward to residential building number 21, there is plenty to learn. This street began its existence in the 19th century, and its original name was "Podgornaya" (meaning "under the hill"). This was no coincidence, as when you ascend the street from the side of the Svisloch River, you will note that it goes uphill. Podgornaya street actively developed and evolved, with its popularity lying in its tobacco shop, grocery store, haberdashery, and tinsmith's house. Additionally, the most prestigious and expensive hotel in Minsk - "Bristol" - was located here. Offering only 14 beds, this hotel already operated according to an "all inclusive" concept, and was ahead of its time.At Podgornaya Street, 25, there was the Ashkinazi tenement house, which featured the Jewish beer store "Waldschlechsen", where absolutely everyone could enjoy the street’s offerings. Additionally, one of the floors housed Neumann's Advertising Agency of metropolitan and provincial newspapers.
