Street of the butcher - everyday life

Once named ‘street of the butchers’, due to butchers shops, or benches, being located on this street. It would have been the main street of the Call, the nerve center of the community. The streets were much narrower. The ground floor of houses were usually dedicated to workshops and the first floor for family homes. The Jewish community owned vineyards and plots of land for vegetables, located outside the city. They had access to use local bread ovens, owned by the king and shared with Christian community. Life inside the Call was lived according to Jewish law. Community issues, legal or moral, were sorted out through the Nesi’im.
