Money lenders - myth debunked
Corner of Sant Sever and Carrer B.Adret
Jews throughout Europe have always been known for their money lending capabilities, used as Jewish stereotypes and antisemetic discourse throughout the centuries. Micro and macro loans were crucial in society at the time, for small businesses who perhaps needed a boost in order to grow the next season's crop to more serious investment, from funding for trade enterprises to King's military campaigns. Due to recording keeping of such loans, there is a large amount of documentation remaining from this time, clearly showing their involvement. Though there is no denying that Jewish communities were important financiers, it’s important to note the high volume of Christian loaners at the time, not making it unique to those within the Jewish community.
