Where did they go?
Carrer del Call
Just three days into the attacks, the Jewish community was forced into very difficult situations and a series of mass conversions were held in churches. Due to the strong trade network throughout the mediterranean, many of those who didn’t convert fled via these routes, leaving to places such as Italy, North Africa, Greece, Turkey and Alexandria. Some families took precious items with them, such as family Haggadot. Others left for parts of the Peninsula which weren’t under such pressure, yet. Of those converted, some escaped at the first opportunity, fleeing and regaining their Jewish identity. Such as Isaac ben Sheshet Perfet who fled to North Africa a few months after conversion and regained his position as Rabbi and doctor.
