Train station
Dworzec kolejowy
The railway reached Lublin in 1877, with the inauguration of the line connecting Warsaw and Kovel (in modern-day Ukraine), and a train station, very modern for the time, was built in Piaski. It was here that all artists and political activists visiting Lublin were greeted.I remember Ester Rachel Kamińska, an outstanding Jewish actress from Warsaw, visiting Lublin before the war. Awaiting her at the Lublin Train Station were Jewish students, who harnessed themselves to a droshky and thus drove her to the Europa Hotel, where she would usually stay.Irena Gewerc-Gottlieb, „Mój Lublin szczęśliwy i nieszczęśliwy” (“My Happy and Unhappy Lublin”), memoirs published in the Na Przykład monthly, 1994.
