Bridge over the Bystrzyca river
Most na rzece Bystrzycy
The route from the train station to the centre of Lublin leads along 1 Maja Street (Foksal Street until 1928) and across a neo-Gothic footbridge over the Bystrzyca River, which is a site of concerts and other cultural events in the summer season.Until 1932, open-air events took place at the widely popular Rusałka Cinema and Theatre, located on the riverbank nearby. Built between 1897 and 1898, this wooden building with a rectangular stage and a circular auditorium could accommodate up to 500 people who would come here to attend theatre spectacles, film screenings, circus shows or political rallies. In 1914, during his visit in Lublin, the classic of Yiddish literature Szolem Aleichem presented his works here (In Italian: Solomon Rabinowicz, 1859-1916).
