Success and International recognition
Candy and Chocolate Shop "Viktorija"
The factory was built at the intersection of Kaukazo and Ugličo streets (present Mindaugo and Šaltinių streets respectively) and was managed by Tobias. The factory was quite successful, and its sweets were more than once appraised at international exhibitions. “Viktorija” products were even awarded a gold medal in the World Fair in Paris in 1900. Production increased, and consequently the factory expanded with two additional annexes constructed before the First World War when the factory employed up to 800 workers. A shop by the same name of “Viktorija” sold the candies produced in the factory. By 1912 there were four shops in Vilnius where one could purchase sweets produced by “Viktorija” factory. Tobias Bunimovich prospered, the business was a success, and, besides the already mentioned “Viktorija” factory, he controlled a considerable stock of real estate in Vilnius. Moreover, like his father, Tobias spent a lot of time and energy as well as resources on charitable activities – hospitals, charity canteens. He was also an aesthete, art connoisseur and lover, who accumulated a library of six thousand volumes and also a huge collection of records of the Milano Opera “La Scala”. Like many other businessmen of that time, one could come across him in the restaurant of “Green Shtral”, then located further on this street.
