Boeotia recounts
Archaeological Museum of Thebes
In the Archeological Museum of Thebes, the visitor strolls through centuries of Boeotia’s history, from the Paleolithic period to the foundation of the New Greek State, through eighteen historical periods in total. These remarkable and unique exhibits tell us multiple stories about life, society, and the culture of the past. The spiritual radiance of Boeotia over the centuries, including well-known myths of gods and heroes, as well as the influence of the Theban mythological circle on the shape and form of ancient Attic drama, is displayed in a modern way using modern technology in specially organized sections. This diachronic atmosphere is amplified by a visit to the prehistoric archaeological site in the Museum’s foundations, and to the medieval castle of Saint-Omer which dominates the courtyard.
