In honor of the three Graces
The Orchomenos ancient theatre
The inscriptions found in the excavations on the site of the Orchomenos theatre, founded in the 4th C. B.C., show that the area was used for competitions in music, theatre and poetry dedicated to the Graces who were worshiped long before other gods in the city, other than Dionysus and Zeus. Still preserved today from the theatre, is the concave section, carved into the natural rock slope of Mount Akondio, while the rest of the built construction has disappeared since the end of its usage in the 3rd C. A.D., and the remaining building materials have been used for the construction of other buildings of more recent ancient and Byzantine periods.
