Plaza De Weyler
An exquisite example of early 20th-century Catalan modernism, what is now the CaixaForum building once housed the Gran Hotel, which opened in 1903. It became a key element of Palma’s urban landscape and one of the first hotels designed for the island by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Look out for the building’s unique decorative features—from sculptures and mosaics to wrought iron, heraldic compositions and blue dragons. In 1993, the hotel was acquired by the Obra Social de la Caixa for restoration, converting it into the CaixaForum cultural center, which the Ministry of Culture declared a site of cultural interest in 2003. Visit the CaixaForum to enjoy the permanent collection of artworks by the local painter Anglada Camarasa, as well as temporary international exhibitions, cinema showings, concerts, annual conferences and many other activities.
