Moors on the Island
The Arab Baths
Between 902 and 1229, the islands of the “Balliarides” passed into the hands of the Moors. The islands caught the attention of North African Arabs because of their strategic location on their trade route. The Arabs founded the emirate of Córdoba in Spain and the Balearics were integrated into it in 902. With their arrival, began a period of great prosperity for the islands. The Moors rebuilt walls, set up advanced irrigation systems and established new crops, bringing their ways of working to the island. In 1229, when Jaime I of Aragon took over the occupation of Mallorca, several Moors remained on the island and were engaged in trade.
