S. Ivo alla Sapienza–exterior
In 1632 Borromini received a commission for the library, the church, and two of the four façades (east and west), following the recommendation of Bernini to the pope, Urban VIII. At the time Borromini was still Bernini’s assistant and this commission turned out to be one of the only two public projects he ever received. Construction lasted almost twenty years.
