A moving geometrical dome
S. Ivo alla Sapienza–interior
If someone wishes to understand the church’s floor plan, which consists of an ingenious combination of geometric shapes, it is well advised to look up, at the base of the dome, where Borromini’s plan is clearly outlined. There is probably no better example that expresses the Baroque ideals regarding movement in architecture. Similar plans usually appear in buildings dated to the late antiquity rather than the Renaissance.
