The construction of the church began in 1604 under the supervision of the architect Gaspare Guerra, but work stopped eight years later. Borromini took over in 1653 and remained on the project until his death. The next architect commissioned to finish the church was Mattia De Rossi but it was only in 1826 that S. Andrea delle Fratte was finally completed.
