Ingenious courtyard
S. Carlo alle Quattro Fontane–interior
The courtyard is a fine example of the ingenious use of a small space and proves the stylistic maturity of Borromini. It is a rectangular with inverse round corners. The wall is slightly concave on the ground floor and straight on the first floor. The alternate concave and straight surfaces was a common pattern in Borromini’s home region.
