The Denial of St. Peter (Gallery 601)
Return to Gallery 917 and then turn left into the corridor. On your way to the next stop, which is about a 5-minute walk, you may want to stop at the restrooms on the other side of the Met boutique. At the end of this corridor, turn right into gallery 800, where you’ll see a display of European paintings, including the French Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau’s marvellous Oedipus and the Sphinx. It will be on your right. About halfway down the corridor, you will turn left into the Photographs, Drawings, and Prints area. On your right, as you walk, are galleries in which temporary exhibitions are installed. This corridor will lead you to the spacious landing area at the top of the Grand Staircase. Once you arrive and have taken in the view, you will enter the European Paintings gallery 600. The Caravaggio painting is in the following gallery, 601. The denial of saint Peter will be on the wall nearest to 600 as you enter the room. It will be between the two glass doors between two similar paintings by Caracciolo and Velazquez
