When she was two years old, she lost her mother, Duchess Adelheid, from whom she had one sister, Duchess Friederike. After a while, her father remarried to Amalia’s maternal aunt, Ida, with whom he had a son, Nikolau Friedrich Peter. Later on, her father married Duchess Cecilia, with whom he had three sons.
