The “Opthalmiatrio” (1843) and the “Amaliion Orphanage” (1855) were founded under Amalia’s care. She also founded the first insurance institute for naval officers, the “Merchant Seamen’s Fund”, which was considered to be innovative concerning the facts of the time throughout Europe. She got involved with agriculture, arboriculture and viticulture. Besides, several model crops and the first cattle-breeding unit developed at the Tower of the Queen (Pirgos Vassilissis), her estate in Ilion, to boost the agricultural and stock-raising production.
