At the age of 18, Amalia married King Otto who was 3 years older than her and she became Queen of the Modern Greek state. Their wedding took place in her homeland, Oldenburg, on 10/11/1836. The celebrations lasted sixteen whole days, including innumerable wishes, receptions, feasts and visits to the theatre. It was the most important event of the century for Oldenburg. On 2/2/1837, the Royal Couple arrived in Athens, where they were heartily welcomed.
