Regular tours to Navagio Beach depart from Porto Vromi. This tiny harbour is where Mary Magdalene first landed in Europe. Her footprints are preserved for all eternity on a nearby rock. Mary Magdalen was a follower of Christ who abandoned her home and relatives to serve Him and spread His word. In 34 CE she embarked on a ship to Rome, to complain for Christ’s unfair treatment at the hands of the prefect Pontius Pilate. The ship was caught in a storm and the crew sought shelter in Porto Vromi, where Mary preached among the local inhabitants.
