A month on the road
Ionis Shelter, Vathis Square
"I stayed with a friend for a few days, but it did not feel right because I had nothing to offer him, so I went on the streets. Not entirely, however, because a friend who ran a football pool agency with a small room with a bathroom, allowed me to go there in the morning, run some errands for him to give me some pocket money and sleep until closing time. Then, I went to the benches at Syntagma Square, got a coffee and went through the nights. Thank God, I was out in the streets like that only for a month. During this time, someone learnt about it and brought me in touch with a person who was involved with the City of Athens Homeless Foundation. I went there, they let me know about the tests I had to take to be able to stay at the shelter, they gave me some money to pay for them and within one week I had already found a place in it."
