Voluntary action
Doctors of the World
“When I went to live in the homeless shelter of Reception Center for Homeless of Municipality of Athens, I became a volunteer working for the Doctors of the World. For six months, twice a week, we went out at night in vans to distribute blankets, sleeping bags, food, tea, coffee to the homeless who slept in the streets of the center of Athens and Piraeus port. Doctors also distributed medicines and examined on the spot those people. I believed it was me who needed support. Through these actions, however, I found out there were people who were in a situation worse than mine and should offer them any kind of help I could. It touched me a lot to see people crying and kissing my hand for our help”. Lambros Moustakis, seller of the street paper, guide in the “Invisible Routes”.
