A Noble Neighborhood
San Martin Square
The square is bound on the west by the apse of the San Martin church and a wall bearing an authentic 12th century depiction of San Martin of Tours. The Renaissance palaces of Bornos and Solier, as well as the Lozoya tower, are on the east side. The façade of the number 2 Solier's residence is composed entirely of granite. The next house with a peculiar window on the corner was the Bornos' family residence. Both have upper galleries designed to air wool and cloth, a testament to Segovia's thriving textile industry during the 16th and 17th century. On the opposite side of the staircase, formerly a steep ramp, stands Henry IV's erstwhile palace location, currently the Contemporary Art Museum which you can visit for free.
