The Great Synagogue
The Corpus Christi Church
The church of Corpus Christi, which used to be the Main Synagogue, is next to the Jewish Quarter. The building served as a synagogue from its construction, during the thirteenth century until 1421, when it was donated to the Augustinian monastery of Santa María de Párraces. Unfortunately, a fire completely destroyed the building in 1899. However, the building's architectural configuration still hints at its ancient Hebrew origins. The restoration entailed rebuilding the edifice, including the original Jewish temple's decorative plasterworks, such as the profusely decorated capitals, and the series of arches on the next level. Currently, it belongs to the Clarisas nuns of the neighboring Corpus Christi Convent.
