The Oldest Park in Bucharest
Cismigiu Park
Created in 1847 on old swamp ground, Cismigiu Park was the first public garden that opened in Bucharest. It quickly became a favorite meeting place for locals as a beautiful space where they could take a stroll and unwind. The landscape artist, Willhelm Mayer, who oversaw the gardens around the Imperial Palace in Vienna, crafted the new park in the style of an English garden. There are a variety of plants and trees present throughout the park and the small lake at its heart alongside its old stone bridges add an extra charm. Some of the most prominent Romanian walked through Cismigiu Park, especially writers like Mihai Eminescu, Mircea Eliade, Ion Luca Caragiale, thus it’s mentioned in many works of literature.
