A Guinness World Record-Making Building
The Palace of the Parliament
Constructed between 1984 and 1997, The Palace of The Parliament has broken several records for its sheer size. Previously named the Palace of the Socialist Republic of Romania, it’s the largest parliament building on earth, and the world’s second largest administrative building after the Pentagon in the USA. This palace is also the world’s heaviest building, weighing over 4 billion Kgs, and made with over 1 million cubic meters of marble and almost the same amount of steel. Nowadays, it’s used by the Parliament of Romania. Most of the 1,100 rooms inside the palace are used as offices by the administration, but the Museum of Contemporary Art is also located here, while the reception halls can be rented for private events.
