The journey of the letters from Athens to Trieste by steamboat lasted for at least 28 days and in fierce weather conditions even 50 days were needed. After 1837, the route improved and the journey only lasted for 7-8 days. During that period, letters were the only way of communication between people who were apart. It was a way of communication almost unknown nowadays with the use of phones and the Internet.
